Sandbanks’ Wine Cocktail

The sandy mustard base and clear top of this drink are reminiscent of a picnic on one of Canada’s many beautiful, sandy beaches. The surprising addition of mustard and the use of herbal, vegetal aquavit makes this cocktail deceivingly delicious. This drink is a toast to the bountiful produce and flavours that hail from Ontario’s foodie haven, Prince Edward County, where the magnificent beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park is located.

Makes 1 drink

2 oz vidal wine, such as Sandbanks Dunes

1⁄2 oz aquavit, such as Aalborg Jubialeums Akvavit

1⁄2 oz Cinnamon Syrup

1 tsp (5 mL) St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur

1⁄2 tsp (2 mL) mustard seeds or 1/8 tsp (0.5 mL) Kozlik’s Triple-Crunch Mustard

Handful of ice cubes

Add ingredients to a shaker. Add ice. Shake until chilled. Using only a hawthorn strainer, pour into a chilled martini or coupe glass.

Canada produces a range of fantastic mustards — such as Kozlic’s Triple Crunch and Amazing Maple — and is one of the largest mustard and mustard seed distributors in the world.
